Service, Stewardship, and the Preservation of Brotherhood
Every Lodge is built upon the dedication of brethren who willingly accept responsibility, contribute their time, and work to ensure that the institution they serve continues to flourish. For Hermano Karlo Cuevas, known in the Craft as Kabagtas, his Masonic journey has been defined by service, accountability, and a commitment to preserving the history of Bathala Lodge No. 1.
Raised to the degree of Master Mason on March 6, 2021, Hermano Karlo began a journey that would lead him to serve the Lodge in several important capacities. His experience reflects the different forms of service that sustain a Masonic institution—not only through leadership and administration, but also through charity, financial stewardship, and the preservation of its collective memory.
During his early years with Bathala Lodge No. 1, Hermano Karlo served as Lodge Almoner, a responsibility that deepened his appreciation for charity, compassion, and the importance of looking after the welfare of the brethren.
He later served as Lodge Secretary during the term of Worshipful Master Enerito Lebeco.
In this role, he contributed to the administrative work of the Lodge, recognizing the importance of transparency, accurate records, clear communication, and continuity in its proceedings.
For the years 2026 and 2027, he serves as Lodge Treasurer, entrusted with responsibilities that demand diligence, accountability, and careful stewardship of the Lodge's resources.
Though each office carries different duties, they share a common purpose: to help maintain the strength, stability, and continuity of the Lodge. For Hermano Karlo, these responsibilities are not merely positions to hold, but opportunities to serve the brethren and contribute to the institution he values.
Outside the Lodge, Hermano Karlo works in the software industry for a New York-based software company, specializing in business development, partnerships, and relationship management.
One of Hermano Karlo's continuing commitments is the preservation of the history of Bathala Lodge No. 1.
Through the Bathala Lodge No. 1 Historical Archive project, he seeks to document the Lodge's history, organize its records, preserve historical photographs, and give proper recognition to the brethren whose lives and service have shaped its story.
For him, historical preservation is more than collecting old documents or photographs. It is an effort to ensure that future generations understand the men behind the records—their service, their sacrifices, their accomplishments, and their contributions to the Craft.
A Lodge's history is not preserved by documents alone. It lives through the stories of its brethren and the lessons passed from one generation to the next.
Hermano Karlo's Masonic journey continues to evolve through the responsibilities entrusted to him and his work to preserve Bathala's heritage.
His service as Almoner, Secretary, and Treasurer reflects a commitment to different but connected aspects of Lodge life: charity, administration, and financial stewardship. His work on the Historical Archive extends that commitment into the preservation of the Lodge's institutional memory.
Ultimately, he hopes his contribution will help ensure that the history of Bathala Lodge No. 1 remains accessible to its brethren and future generations—and that the men who helped shape the Lodge will not be forgotten.
For Hermano Karlo Cuevas, Kabagtas, preserving the legacy of Bathala is itself an act of service: honoring the brethren who came before, supporting those who serve today, and leaving a clearer record for those who will follow.
This biography is part of “THE MEN WHO HELPED SHAPE BATHALA,” a continuing series by the Bathala Lodge No. 1 Historical Archive dedicated to documenting the lives, service, and Masonic journeys of its brethren.
